I think it’s funny how years ago Americans knew lots of their stuff was made in China, and that was fine, but now that the Chinese economy is a lot bigger all of a sudden stuff being from China is scary. Funnily enough, this tee is actually printed on an American Apparel t-shirt, which as we all know is famously made in downtown LA by massaged Mexicans*.

Poketo, now there’s a company you can trust to make some damn fine looking t-shirts, and in no way is this design by Cody Hudson an exception. If you’re willing to live life a bit more on the edge, Poketo are offering grab bags at good prices, and for once, it’s actually cheaper if you’re a larger framed fellow.
If you are a size S, M, or L you can get 4 tees for $60 or 8 tees for $100, but if you’re a size XL it’s $45 for 4 and $80 for 8, time to stock up on doughnuts right, thin people? Of course, you don’t get to choose what you get so there is an element of risk, but if you like the Poketo catalogue then that risk is pretty minimal.
As we all know, Threadless coupon codes are a very rare breed indeed. I don’t know why they’ve put one out now but they have and that can only be a good thing. I think it was meant to be restricted to Facebook fans, but if you put a coupon out there I’m going to share it (I’m such a rebel!).

So it’s not the longest lasting code, but it is a code at least, and saving $5 is pretty sweet. And the picture, one of you may ask of the approximately 5000 that read this site. I figured that we all know what Threadless is by now, so I’d treat you to seeing me wearing my lovely new hat during a hike a couple of weeks ago.
To be entirely frank, I don’t really like most of the tees that are currently on sale at Snorg Tees, but they are certainly more attractive at $9.95 than $18.95, and different strokes for different folks and all that, so who am I to judge if you like these tees?
Also, I presume that snorgtees.com/sale is a permanent fixture of their site, so it might be worth checking back every so often to see if one of your favourites from the full catalogue has made it into the sale section.
Technically, this is a logo hoodie, so you’ll probably need to be a Pandy Cane fan to lay down your cash on it, but I think that the Love Heart style works really well for them, and that colourway is pretty much perfect.

Design By Humans should probably know by now that all this “members-only” nonsense simply doesn’t work on the internet. I’m sure they’re all too happy for this coupon code to be making its way into the open since the more times it’s used the happier they’ll be.
You have to wonder how many t-shirt design there would be about Arrested Development had the show actually continued production over the past few years, it seems almost bizarre that a show that was relatively short-lived still gets so much attention from the indie t-shirt communtiy. Still, if you like it, I’m cool with it.

I’ve been trying to clean up my office recently (too much stuff!) and I randomly found a plastic toy camera under a pile of cushions. I think it was a freebie from Ribena (yes, the blackcurrant squash people), and I haven’t seen it for years so I’m curious as to what I would have taken photos of back in the day and what time has done to the film…. though perhaps not curious enough to pay to have it developed. Anyway, sweet tee, and don’t let the no armed mannequin fool you, this tee does have short sleeves.
Oh, and you’d have thought that the International Center of Photography would be able to take a decent product shot, wouldn’t you?

Surprise! You won $20,000!!! Bestee Winner reacts! from Threadless.com on Vimeo.
Threadless announced the winners of their annual Bestee competition yesterday, and this design by Emmy Cicierega won the top prize, getting $20,000 in the process. Threadless, being those wiley PR scamps that they are decided to tell Emmy about this over Skype, and her reaction is pretty adorable, it’s really nice to share the moment with her and see how happy she is to win the top prize. If you were wondering, I’m pretty sure I’d have been dancing in one form or another by the end of the vid had I been the winner.
There has been a bit of a brew-ha-ha about her winning. From what I can tell the Bestee competition turned into a popularity contest rather than what was actually the best design of the year, when you’re running something on the internet that involves voting it almost always turns into a popularity contest rather than an unbiased look at the competition entrants, so it sounds like Emmy was just better at marketing herself than the other people in the running.
It’s a nice enough tee but not particularly to my tastes, possibly because we have curtains in our bathroom that bear a passing resemblance to the design.
As the first commenter on the MySoti page says “who wouldn’t want a tidal wave of cats on a shirt?” For one, I know I sure do.

This tee has to be old because it was made to celebrate Japanese artist Kami’s cover of Giant Robot issue #56, I own that issue and I haven’t GR for many, many moons. But just because it’s old doesn’t make it fresh, much like the pastrami I’ve got in my fridge it seems to be getting better with age (or staying exactly the same, it’s probably a mental thing), because this tee is damn clean and damn nice.

I like it when clothing designers take a well-known phrase and run at it from a previously unknown angle, conjuring up a design that is different from the norm. Obviously this hoodie (also available as a tee) is takes on the old saying “the pen is mightier then the sword” and has fun with it. I imagine that English majors would get a kick out of this, sword-fighting majors too!

This looks like a bit of a classic LaFraise work though, I’ve always liked the way that despite being a design competition with a fairly varied amount of styles being printed they’ve managed to keep a “laFraise look” permeating through most of their winners.

This is actually a quote from Louis C.K., the hilarious comedian that I saw perform in Philly about a year ago, and regular readers will be well aware by now of how much I enjoy reminiscing about my three-month skint in the city of brotherly love. Louis makes a fair point, we have loads of awesome stuff nowadays, and people are happier than ever to complain. I think one of the examples he gave was about wifi on airplanes and some guy he was sat next to complaining that it was slow or didn’t work, as if he shouldn’t be amazed that he was flying (flying!) in the air. I have the same thing about mobile phones, people will just casually say “my phone sucks.” Really? You have something that goes in your pocket that can make a call to someone else on the other side of the planet in an instant, if you showed that to someone from the 18th century they’d probably execute you for being a witch.

Usually I’m a bit dubious of tees that have print extending all the way up to the arms like this one does because they’re so hard to print well, but I think it works really well in this instance, possibly because waves are always a bit crazy and unstoppable, so it makes sense to have them spreading out as much as possible. That said, I’d still like to see a picture of the back of this tee to see just how far Threadless have printed onto the back.

ArdenTees (ARDT) are a fairly new tee site that have got a really strong lineup of designs to get them rolling which certainly bodes well for the future, and they seem to have things pretty well together in terms of branding and all the usual social media gubbins… yes, gubbins… just in case you were in any doubt that I’m from Northern England.
This particular tee piqued my interest, though to be honest I could have linked to just about any of them and be happy about it, big print and a restrained colourway to a strong image.
